Participants of the international heritage plant project “Communities for Climate” from the Peipsimaa Cooperation Centre and members of the Kasepää Folk House club “Meemen” visited the Rural Science Centre and the gene bank.
The aim of the heritage plants project is to conserve and promote the heritage plants of Lake Peipsi region.
The guests were given an overview of the wheat bread-making laboratory and the work of the breeding group of wheat.
In the greenhouse, senior engineer Andro Otsus presented ongoing projects and activities.
Külli Annamaa and Larissa Sirel gave an overview of the work of the METK gene bank and the importance of the potato collection in the conservation of heritage plants.
The visit ended with a light lunch tasting of the soup made from the pea variety ´Mehis´ and a rye bread .
